Assignment #2 – Museum of Moving Image

Using the trip to the Museum of Moving Image as your inspiration, I would like your blog post to discuss some aspect of the development of film using the following statement as a springboard:

“The changes that a moving image medium goes through over time have an impact on the “look” of the image, and on the way it is seen by an audiences.”

Your blog post should detail at least one aspect in the exhibits that illuminated this for you. For instance you might write about the development of the film medium from still images to moving images. You could cover the progress of cameras over the past century, different film stocks, color processing (technocolor), editing (flatbeds to digital), and exhibition (from nickelodeons to theater palaces).

Feel free to include photos or videos that you shot from your trip.

This blog post is due on October 1, 2014. There will also be a separate blog post due on the same day which will be about the film “The Immigrant”. I will post that by Monday.

Completed in 1912, the Arena Theatre was located on Astoria Blvd. at the Steinway Street intersection in Astoria, New York. It was demolished in 1928 to make way for the Grand Central Parkway.
